Sound Setup
SinkSub Pro uses digitized sound effects. In order to play more than one sound at a time, real-time software mixing is used. The sound mixing is managed by a program that premixes all active sounds into one new sound which then is played by the sound card.
Since normal PC sound cards does not provide multiple channels for sounds, this rather time consuming procedure must take place every time a new sound is to be played. With some sound cards or a too slow computer the mix procedure does not perform well. Therefore it is possible to use a second sound setup, called standard sound setup. This setup is a standard Windows setup and should work fine. The only drawback is that it does not support multiple sounds.
This means, a new sound will interrupt a currently playing sound.
The sound setup is accessed from the Game menu. When the setup is changed, the program must be restarted in order to make the changes take effect
Tip for experienced users
If the mixed sound setup does not work with your sound card, it might be worth changing some of the parameters in the wavemix.ini file located in the Windows directory. This file contains parameters for the most commonly used sound cards. Look up the section that corresponds to your sound card and test with different numbers of WaveBlocks (3-6). Also try to with 1 or 0 for the GoodWavePos. If your sound card is not listed in the file you can change the values in the [default] section. Some parameters are only defined in the [default] section, like the WaveBlockLen. Try to change it to a smaller or larger value.
Joystick Setup
SinkSub Pro supports joystick control. With the setup you can select which joystick to use if you have more than one joystick connected. It is also possible to change by which buttons you want to release the depth charges, to the left and right. All the movement keys are the same for the joystick, joystick up activates the throw indicator. If you do not use joystick, then turn the joystick support off by unchecking the Use joystick checkbox It will save you some precious processor time if you are running on a slow system. Please note that in order to make the joystick work in SinkSub Pro, joystick support must first be enabled by the operating system. You install and calibrate the joystick in Windows Control Panel. A joystick device driver is supplied and installed along with SinkSub Pro for Windows 3.x. In Windows 95 or later, this device driver is already installed by the operating system. Windows 3.x users please note ! Restart Windows after the installation.

Tip
To get the best joystick feeling, more direct control, use a game pad.
A game pad is small flat digital joystick, often with a flat thumb control for the movement control and four buttons to the right. This is the common console game joystick type. In this type of game a game pad is more suitable than a normal analog joystick, mostly used with flight simulators.
